Council tax freeze agreed for Waverley’s part of the bill

22 February 2012

Waverley Borough Council has agreed to freeze its portion of the council tax bill.

In spite of a 14.4% cut in Government Revenue Support Grant, Waverley’s section of the bill will remain at £161.91 for a band D property.

A meeting of the full council on Tuesday, agreed to not increase Waverley portion of the bill.

2012/13 is the second year running Waverley has frozen its portion of the bill.

Cllr Robert Knowles, Leader of Waverley Borough Council, said:

“As a  council we work hard to make savings while maintaining important front  line services at a level we know our residents rightly expect. Although  rises elsewhere will mean Waverley residents will see an increase in  their overall council tax bills, I hope council taxpayers notice that  their borough council has not added to the pressure on their household  budget.”

Councillor responsible for finance at Waverley Borough Council, Cllr Mike Band, added:

“Maintaining the core services that people rely on  while not hiking council tax is a tough challenge but one Waverley has  continued to show it can meet. Waverley prides itself on having balanced budgets to look after the best interests of its residents and  businesses by providing value for money through the hundred or so  services it provides.”
