Aylesbury council to expand its ICT systems with cloud computing

17 February 2012

The District Council of Aylesbury Vale this week announced plans to create a brand new cloud framework to support its finance, procurement, HR department and payrolls department.

The implementation of the cloud system should reduce costs and increase the efficiency with which information is not only stored but shared.

The system has a four year contract that is estimated to cost up to 1.5 million; A large investment for such a small council.

According to the tender accompanying the plans, the: “Software service or solution must be fit for purpose and minimise the overall lifetime management costs (e.g. maintenance and support) as well as being flexible and scalable”.

Four other local authorities should also be able to benefit from the system, including Dacorum Borough Council, Chiltern District Council, South Bucks District Council and Bucks Fire and Rescue.

The tender states that the councils wishing to utilize the service showed “formal interest” in the scheme and therefore are “named as parties to which the resulting arrangement is open”.

The cloud system should be implemented by the end of 2012
